The Joy in Joyride
I started mountain biking in 1995 in the glorious California coastal region of San Luis Obispo, which has some of the best riding on earth. I started racing cross country in 1999 for Cal Poly Wheelmen. I enjoyed the hard work and satisfaction of cross country riding for many years. The fun of riding up the hill was knowing that the sweetest singletrack was waiting at the top.
After a while my bike handling skills improved and the descents became a roller coaster ride. Instead of fear I was inspired by challenging terrain. I gained confidence knowing there was a gnarly trail out there that I could conquer.
I graduated from Cal Poly in 2002 with a Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering, and launched my career in energy industry. With my background in engineering I have designed clinics with some emphasis on physics and how it applies to the bike. These same techniques are taught with standard coaching certifications, my coaching experience has been refined over the years but still contains the fundamentals and foundation for coaching.
I started racing downhill in 2005 to challenge myself. My goal as a coach is to get students comfortable and confident on their bikes over all types of terrain. Having raced downhill professionally I walked the path of learning that confidence and love to pass it on.
I got my professional DH racing license in 2009, and to give back I started coaching. It’s great to see riders gain confidence and enjoy mountain biking as much as I do.
The first Joyride clinic was September of 2007. Since then I have coached over hundreds of women and all of them came away with some new found skills.
In 2014 I completed my PMBI (Professional Mountain Bike Instructor) Certification for Level 1. I have coached with Dirt Series, Momentum, Andshesdopetoo, WomenMtb, Woodward Park City, Little Bellas, and other organizations.
I am a certified PMBIA coach and have basic first aid training.
